Kids Say the Darndest Things

Any Scrubs fans in the crowd? When Carla and Turk are trying to decide if they want a baby, Carla says, “Dr. Cox said it’s like having a dog that slowly learns how to talk.”

I think about this a lot now that I have a chatty 3-year-old and a very chatty 1-year-old (though she seems to be making something other than English her first language). I used to be slightly offended by the idea (and, yes, I still am a bit put off when people compare their dog’s behavior to my child’s behavior, but I do see the similarities). However, Turk says, “That’s awesome!” about a dog learning to talk, and I can agree.

Sweet, cherishable moment during our family photo shoot.

George learned how to speak well very young, and I’ve enjoyed seeing the world through a 2- and now 3-year-old’s eyes. My mom continues to urge me to “write these things down!” so, essentially, you’re witnessing my kids’ digital baby books. Two birds? Meet one stone.

Do you remember when this is all it took to have this much fun?

George: I washed my hands all by myself!
Mama: I’m so proud of you!
George: I’m proud of you for watching TV. (As I turned on the TV for him)

George sitting in my lap, feels my bare leg.
George: What is that?
Mama: That’s hair, baby.
George: Does it hurt?

(It’s the middle of winter!)

George was in his room with the door closed.

George: Shoo! Shoo! Shoo!
Mama: George, what’s wrong?
George: There’s a fly in my room!

George: Bill is my best friend.

We’re on a first-name basis with Bill Nye.

Mama: I love you.
George: I love you too. What’s your name? I think your name is John.

Mama: Do you know how old Grammy will be on her birthday? 60!
George: Woah! That’s a lot of growing!

(Sorry, Mom!)

Mama: OK, you get to watch one episode of PJ Masks while I clean the house.
George: Who’s coming over?
Mama: Sigh.
